Article on AURONN® biological fullerenes by Assoc. Prof. Kłodzińska

On 21 July 2025 a new scientific article on biological fullerenes appeared, prepared by Assoc. Prof. Ewa Kłodzińska. The publication addresses the key differences between synthetic and biological fullerenes, drawing attention to their safety and application. A special place in the text is given to AURONN®, the only biological fullerene tested by the Polish Academy of Sciences. The article “Fullerenes. Biological revolution vs. synthetic precision” presents the growing importance of carbon nanostructures in medicine and cosmetology. The authors explain that synthetic C₆₀ is characterised by high purity but may carry a risk of toxicity and has no nutritional status in the EU. Biological fullerenes — including AURONN® — form naturally in biotechnological processes, show high biocompatibility and comply with FDA, EFSA and GIS regulations. The publication emphasises their strong antioxidant potential and possible applications in cosmetology and research on oxidative stress, among others. The article describes the differences between synthetic and biological fullerenes, pointing out that AURONN®, as a natural form of carbon, stands out with a better safety profile and high antioxidant potential. The publication suggests that biological fullerenes may be a promising alternative to traditional antioxidants in modern cosmetic and biomedical products.
