Care after laser vessel closure. How to support couperose skin after the treatment

Laser vessel closure (a vascular laser, e.g. Nd:YAG or dye laser) targets haemoglobin: the energy absorbed by the blood heats and contracts the vessel wall. The treatment is performed on skin that is by definition problematic — couperose, reactive, prone to erythema. This doubles the importance of post-treatment care.
The first 48 hours
After the treatment, erythema, swelling and sometimes small petechiae are typical at the sites of the closed vessels. The skin needs calming — without heating and without friction.
- a soothing-antioxidant mist applied touch-free
- sleeping with the head slightly raised for facial treatments — less swelling
- no sauna, hot baths, alcohol or intense exercise for 48–72 h
- no facial massage and no rough towels — pat dry by touch, do not rub
Couperose skin in the long term
Closing the vessels does not change the skin's tendency — without a change in care, new telangiectasias will appear in the same places. In the long run couperose skin needs: daily photoprotection, avoiding extreme temperatures and constant antioxidant support that limits the chronic inflammation sustaining vessel dilation.
In AURONN® documentation, couperose and sensitive skin is one of the most frequently described cases — a visible reduction in the intensity of erythema and reactivity after introducing therapy with biological fullerenes (see the Case Studies). Clinics can test the line in the “Test for 1 PLN” programme.
Frequently asked questions
How long does erythema last after laser vessel closure?
Usually 24–72 hours; for larger areas or delicate skin up to a few days. Indirect cooling and antioxidant care shorten this period.
Can the vessels come back after the treatment?
A closed vessel does not “reopen”, but the skin's tendency remains — without photoprotection and calming care, new vessels may form in the same areas.
What care is best for couperose skin after the treatment?
Minimalist: gentle cleansing, high-capacity antioxidants (e.g. biological fullerenes), hydrolipid barrier rebuilding and daily SPF 50+. Avoid: high temperatures, alcohol in cosmetics and aggressive exfoliation.
